Zone Conference with 70's

Everyone,
This past week was pretty awesome. We had so many cool things happen, and I'm grateful to be serving God right here in Idaho. I'll get right into it.

Zone Conference: So this was one of the major highlights from this past week. We had Zone Conference last Tuesday and got there early on Tuesday morning. After practicing a little bit from our music number we started preparing for the conference. Before we started the meeting, and after Elder and Sister Taylor and Snow arrived, we went up and shook theirs and the mission presidencies hands, and started it off. Because it is too much to write about, I'll go over some of the Highlights. Sister Taylor talked about physical health and how that affects us spiritually. Later on in the meeting she shared her testimony of the Book of Mormon and how it has saved her life. It was powerful, and she testified about how exercise, eating healithy, getting good sleep, intense scripture study, and meaningful prayers will help us grow spirtually and be able to wear the storms that we go through. Elder Taylor taught about the Spirit and about how if we have the spirit with us everything will go better for us in our lives. When he played on the BYU basketball team they had President Benson share a comment similar to his one found in Preach My Gospel, and talked about how if we have the spirit with us, we can play basketball better, be a better musician, be a better student, just be more like Christ.
“The Spirit is the most important single element in this work. With the Spirit magnifying your call, you can do miracles for the Lord in the mission field. Without the Spirit, you will never succeed regardless of your talent and ability” (Ezra Taft Benson, seminar for new mission presidents, 25 June 1986).
Sister Snow taught about Hymns and about how they lift us up and bring us together. Elder Snow finally taught about finding and about being better teachers. One of the coolest parts from all of the messages were the testimonies of each of these people. They were firm, they were solid, and they were steadfast that Jesus Christ is our Savior and this is His Work. We can do this work, and the spirit testified that these were men called of God, just like I am called of Him. Two other missionaries and myself sang a musical number and it was awesome.

Nicole: We were able to take Nicole, a recent convert in the area, to do baptisms for the dead. The temple is amazing to go through and to feel the spirit there. This was wonderful and she is progressing really well. When we were walking away, talking about when she could go into the rest of the temple, she said that she would like to go on a mission. The gospel is true and the temple is the house of the Lord. I remember me receiving a confirmation for my call after going and serving in the temple in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Heriberto: He's still going strong. We had some intense lessons with him last week, but his progress is going a little bit slower. It was a lesson that sometimes that timing that we might want for someone to come unto Christ, or to receive a witness by the Spirit, is not always God's timing. We are going to the Visitors Center this week with him, and we were continue helping him until he moves back to Mexico on the 15th of September.

Exchanges: On Saturday I went on Exchanges with Elder Reamer. One of the coolest experiences that we had during the day was talking to everyone. One of the miracles that we saw was when he saw someone washing their car so we got out of the car after pulling over and started talking to this person. She was Hispanic and had only semi-recently moved there. She was a seventh-day Adventist and we had a long discussion with her outside. She is still searching for truth and was excited to study the Book of Mormon to learn about the book and the record of the people of the ancient Americas. She felt the spirit and seems willing to put the Restoration to the Test. She is now being visited by the elders in my last area, Oakland Valley.

Eclipse: The eclipse was yesterday and it was pretty awesome. We saw full totality, but on our side of the town there weren't many people, but we still were able to reach a lot of people that day. When it was approaching it, the shadows of leaves started to have crescents of moons, it got colder, and darker. Once the totality hit, we were able to look up at the sun without glasses, were able to see stars during the middle of the day. It was a 360 degree sunset, and I'll put in some pictures below.

Great week, and it is now becoming normal for having sporadically typed emails. Email me any questions if you have them, I love you all and hope you have a great week.

Love,
Elder Baker
