This week just flew on by, it seems that I was just emailing yesterday. If you have any requests for what to put in my emails, please ask away. I don't want to make it get old or routine after a good amount of time. This week was amazing and it was mainly focused on General Conference, but here's about that and a few other points.
General Conference: General Conference is something that is a conference in our Church that happens twice a year. It is when the Prophet and the Apostles teach us, along with other church leaders, about Christ, the Gospel, and how to become better followers of our Savior. It's over two days every 6 months. It started on Saturday with a morning session of 2 hours, an afternoon session, and then a priesthood session that night. There was also a morning and afternoon Sunday session to cap it off. It was an amazing conference and it focused on many things, but here are two that I want to share: The Book of Mormon and Losing ourselves in the service of others. President Eyring, President Nelson, and Brother Callister all spoke about the Book of Mormon and how a deep study of it has built their faith in Christ, helped them, and fulfilled the promises spoken by President Monson 6 months ago. And for service, multiple spoke about service and reaching out. The experiences of those in the relief effort in Texas, Florida, and other parts are an example of what we can do to serve each of our neighbors. Conference is amazing. It answers questions that we are having or struggles we are going through, and is a boost every 6 months. You can find all the stuff you need to study the talks on lds.org. I know that Christ is the head of this Church and leads us through Prophets and Apostles. As it says in Doctrine and Covenants, by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.
Shed: Someone in the branch needed a shed moved, so we got called up. Along with us, the entire branch was also called it seems. We had about 20 people there to lift a shed and move it around a house, and it was pretty fun. They were going to have pizza but we had to escape pretty early. It was just a small, fun, funny thing of service to do during the week.
Miracles: So we had two pretty cool miracles of people we contacted in this past week. The first was Vianca. While we were walking, we stopped to talk to a Hispanic man who was working on his car. He was not interested and had talked to missionaries before, but when Elder Wheelock asked if there was anyone else that would be interested in his family, he told us to go, knock, and ask. Vianca is his 17 year old daughter, who was interested. She is really promising and we should have a appointment with her this next week. The other man was also found by walking, this time through fallsbrook, a trailer park in our area, and his name is Ryan. He is Irish and was interested in going to the family history center. Just opening our mouths and sharing the Gospel brings miracles.
Hope everyone had a wonderful week. Make this one great too. Things are going great here and Elder Wheelock and I are getting better and working harder.
Love,
Elder Baker
