So I am running out of time this week, but it was a pretty amazing week. I have become a lot more accustomed to the new Area and to my new companion, and there is a lot of work and progress that the stake can make.
Spanish Branch: So we gave talks in the Mesa Branch, the branch that I am now serving in. It was really cool, because for some reason on this talk, I felt that I maybe hadn't done the best job in preparing, but the Lord blesses us with Tender Mercies. It was a very similar experience that I once heard about in one of the first talks that Elder David A. Bednar gave, about the tender mercies of the Lord. Right before I spoke, there was a special musical number. It was the song, "If you could hie to Kolob", and it was the same arrangement that I played during seminary graduation. That just filled me with the Spirit and Peace, and I was able to teach in a few minutes about the personal nature that we have with God, and that He invites us to pray to Him. Pray to Him as if He was there, because He hears us in our prayers, and answers them. Elder Chojnacki also gave his first talk in Spanish, and it was a great talk.
Musical Number: So Last Sunday night I got a call from our Mission President talking about Zone Conference tomorrow. Tomorrow, the 15th, we have a Zone Conference, but it will be a little bit more different than normal. We have 2 70's visiting our mission, Elders Taylor and Elder Snow. President called because he heard that I somewhat sang, and asked me to get a musical number together. Elder Furr, who I served around and have done musical numbers with before, Sister Bonds (who will play piano), and I will be performing "The Lord is my Shepard" tomorrow. We have already practiced about three times in this past week, and it is pretty exciting. I am always pretty nervous, but it always turns out well in the end. More on that next week, and more about Zone Conference.
Sick Day: So Elder Chojnacki was sick on Wednesday, so after we went to a district meeting and helped out at a food bank, we were inside of our apartment until Dinner. during that time I was able to study for quite a bit in the scriptures. The main thing that I was able to study was the Christlike Attribute of Meekness, which is way more than I thought it was and am able to explain right now. I would invite each of you to think about something that you need to work on and then study it using Preach My Gospel chapter 6 and using the topical guide references in the Quad.
Heriberto: So the main thing that happened this past week was about Heriberto. Last week I was able to have my first lesson where I could meet him, and this past Friday and Saturday were very very intense days. Friday night we stopped by just before going to bed, and then had a great lesson where we committed him to pray that night with all of his heart to know if the Book of Mormon was true and if Joseph Smith was a Prophet. Then we followed up on Saturday morning and he hadn't received an answer, and we found out that he hadn't been reading very much in the Book of Mormon. All of the prayers weren't in vain though, because he is still getting there and progressing. I know that if anyone will read and put in the work and pray with a sincere heart, real intent, and faith in Christ, the Holy Ghost will manifest the truth of this work to them.
Sorry for the summaries and the shortness of the email. I love you all, and will be able to give more time next week. Also let me know if I keep saying this, because then I won't say it is a short email every week. Haha. I keep y'all in my prayers, and I thank you for your support and prayers.
Love,
Elder Baker
