Miracles and Food

Antolin: So this was an amazing miracle in this past week. On Wednesday night, my last night being with Elder Chojnacki, we got home and were about to go in for the night, when we thought to check the mail. So we go and check the mail, and then look across the street because we just got junk mail and saw someone fixing and working on their car. We felt to walk over and start talking to him, so we did. The only thing that we were able to help with was holding a light while he fixed it, and it started and worked. He then suddenly told us his story and his situation. His name was Antolin, he is in his 20's. He was baptized a member of the church when he was 8, but a year or two later when his mom left the church he went inactive. His dad told us to just get religious, and he wants to come back to church.

Along with all of that he lives in our English Area, one of the two small wards that we cover for english. We live about 10 minutes south about where our English Area is, so this was a miracle. We then taught him a lesson on Saturday night that was amazing. He has seen God in his life over these past few years and wants to follow Him and receive the blessings of the Gospel. He is like an investigator, but already baptized. It will be awesome to work with him, miracles from talking to everyone really do come. I know God prepares His Children to enjoy the blessings of the Gospel, this is the true Church.

Training w/ Elder Wheelock: So this past week on Thursday was when I got my new companion, Elder Wheelock. Elder Wheelock just arrived from the Mexico MTC and ready to go. He is from Tacoma, Washington and loves Baseball. He is just out of High School and is already loving his mission. One of the funny things that happened over last few days was just the excitement of so many new things when you start your mission. Every Bishop, Ward Mission Leader, Investigator, teaching appointment, backing out, it all starts off as being really exciting. There will be a lot of interesting stories over the next few weeks because being in training happens to brings out a lot of weird, funny experiences.

Activities: So we had a ward and a branch activity this past week. One on Saturday for one of our english wards, and then one for the branch this past Saturday which was the 16th of September. For the Corn Roast on Friday, one of the members of the ward invited one of his friends/coworkers who is from napal to the party with his wife. We were able to walk around the church and go into the chapel with them and it was great. They asked quite a bit of questions, and both just felt very very good sitting in the chapel. There is a special spirit there, since it is a dedicated building of worship, and they felt good there. Then for the branch activity on Saturday, one of our investigators came and the branch members reached out and helped her quite a bit. One of the members of the branch also brought their fiddling group (which kinda fit with the theme of celebrating the independence days of the Americas?) and there were two string bass players. Neither of them had a bow, and I've forgotten most of my solos and everything so I just let it be for now. Fun night with lots of good food.

This past week has been pretty great and things are really picking up working with the members here. There is a lot of exciting stuff coming out of the woodwork and Elder Wheelock and I are going to have lots of fun.
Have a great week, and send out your prayers to the recovery effort in Florida and other places for Irma. Hope there is safety, rest, and happiness for yall in the upcoming week.
Love,
Elder Baker
