Skating: So last pday we were able to go Ice Skating. It was a member in one of the surrounding stakes that has set up a Ice Skating rink kinda thing in their backyard. So about 3 o clock last Monday, most of our zone went over to the house and skated. The last time that i did something like that was about 10 years ago, back in Georgia. And it wasn't on the ice, it was roller bladding, and i fell a lot. With the help of a little chair that also likes to slide on the ice it was a lot easier than you would think to be able to go about it. And i was also able to do it without the chair, and i only almost fell down about 3 times. It was fun and it's something that i will love to do again.
Zone Conference: Last Tuesday was my first Zone Conference. A Zone Conference for missionaries is where the Assistants to the President, members of the Mission Presidency, and other leaders give instruction and training to help us become better missionaries. The main things that were talked about was teaching repentance to everyone that we meet. We give commitments for people to make certain changes in their lives to bring their lives more in harmony with God. When they change their lives they are repenting, and through repentance, they can be cleansed of their sins. The second thing was getting converts to the Temple to do baptisms, cool stuff. And lastly, it was to implement the Work of Salvation in the wards and stake. The program is for the wards to create ward mission plans, them to prayerfully select names, and invite them to be taught by us, the full-time missionaries. After all of this we had a Christmas party! It started with a lunch that was prepared by one of the wards that was in that area. Then after that, we played a couple of games and had a talent show. I played the electric bass (man, i am way rusty. It went pretty bad and it reminded me that i only praticed the double bass, not the bass guitar). My companion did a couple of skits and it was pretty fun in general. After that we went to our dinner because it was already about 5 o clock.
Weather: Oh the weather and the cold and everything that goes with it. this week it snowed about a foot and it got down to about 20 below (30 with windchill). I have never ever been in any weather even close to this cold. On Friday we were told that we were not able to go out on the roads because of the snow and the mini blizzard that was happening so we had a member pick us up. We slid a lot that day just to let y'all know. And then the next day it got so cold that the air was sparkling and my nose froze up a little bit. fun stuff.
Future Missionaries: so this week one of the really cool things that we got to do was to talk to and help some future missionaries, those that will be going out in the next year. We helped answer their concerns and some questions that they had about the mission. Glad to help them prepare, even though the mission is something that you cant fully prepare for before you go out. Oh well, hope we helped them.
Susan: Susan is one of the new investigators that we met this week. She is a slightly older lady and is from Virginia. She is one of the only people that i have met that has truly been from the south. She had the accent, was drinking out of a mason jarish bottle, and said y'all quite a lot. She has been searing through many different Christian Religions and doesn't know which is right. We taught her about the Book of Mormon. She then came to the assumption that we were actually going to teach her. She said that she thought that she might as well read it because it is the only way to know whether it is true or not. It was an amazing experience and it is awesome that we will be able to teach her and have her receive her answer from God through he power of the Holy Ghost.
Pictures:
Some pictures of the snow. The ones from Skating won't be coming until next week, sorry guys. and there will be some more coming next week as well, some with fun stories that go with them.
