Almost Christmas

Hello,
it was a fun week.

Transfer Day/Piano: This past week was transfers again and the day of transfers was pretty crazy again. We started out having to take a few elders to the early meeting of train the trainers and the new missionaries so after we dropped them off we were just waiting around the mission office when one of the assistants comes up and asks if anyone plays piano. I said kinda, but since I couldn't play anyone that they could ask I was denied. Turns out that since Elder Taylor went home (previous assistant), they are starting to lose all of the missionaries that play the piano. I felt that I needed to have a more concerted effort to learn the hymns on the piano, so that I could be called upon for any of those meetings. This is a huge change from the first part and even before I came on a mission. I stopped playing the piano a ton about 5-8 years ago, somewhere around there. When I first came out I could play 3 hymns pretty well, the Spirit of God, Come Come Ye Saints, and Called to Serve. Then when I was called as a district leader, there was nobody in my district that played but me so I had a rough transfer learning and fumbling through a lot of hymns. I am now at the point where my skills have gotten back up quite a bit and I am actually learning a lot of the hymns. I played in Priesthood Opening Exercises for the ward and the branch over the past two weeks. This is just a shout out to my Mom and to everyone else who thinks stopping lessons/playing the piano will never come back to haunt you. Trust me, it does :). Rest of the day was good but busy. We taught a new investigator, a 17 year old named Vianca. She accepted a Book of Mormon and has a lot of potential. She doesn't know much about God, but anyone who studies the Book of Mormon with an open heart will increase in Faith in Jesus Christ. It was a Great Day.

Sunday: This was surprised me quite a bit. We are in one of our wards and it was a great sacrament meeting. Right before the closing hymn the Bishop stands up to make a few short remarks. He announces that there will be a special combined sacrament meeting next Sunday to discuss the boundary changes that will be happening with another ward in the stake, potentially creating a new ward. And then he sat down. Crazy! The other ward that is part of the realignment is in the other missionaries area so we might have a lot of interesting stuff go down. Lots of changing coming up in the area, so it was super good that we are staying together another transfer to sort out all of this craziness.

Ward Party: We had our ward party in the Lincoln 2nd ward this past week and it was fantastic. Needless to say that along with some Christmas hymn guessing there were some fun games and it was all whoville and grinch themed. Pretty fun. And one of the members, who is a falcons fan, and a really funny man, played the Grinch. Here's a picture. That explains it all.

Lots of Miracles: There were a ton of miracles this past week in our area. We got a new investigator, and we have about 3 solid appointments this week with other people that are ready to progress. One of the specific ones was from a Skype lesson that we had going to Venezuela this past week. We taught a powerful lesson on the restoration and she told us that the night before her deceased husband (who had joined the church 3 months before he passed away) and visited her and told her that her son was okay and he was enjoying what he was doing. Crazy stuff. Things will continue to happen and she is planning on getting baptized in April when she moves this city from Venezuela. God is helping His work move forward in many different ways. As I read in a talk the other day. Christ is like the sun. We can't look directly at Him right now, but we know He is there because by Him, we see everything (indirect C.S. Lewis quote).

That's pretty much it for this week. Don't forget to #LightTheWorld. It's going strong and it is so much fun to do this Christmas season. Hope everyone has a wonderful week full of service and the spirit.
Love,
Elder Baker
