The Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood: So the first part of this was on Tuesday. After District Meeting I went on exchanges with Elder Pukahi, who is currently serving in Arco. He is pretty cool, but the day was the main highlight. We had a lesson with the La Piers at 7, and we were going to give a priesthood blessing to one of the daughters. When we entered into their home, we felt that before we gave her a blessing, we needed to teach more about Priesthood. The Priesthood is the power and authority to act in the name of Christ, entrusted unto certain people, and the Priesthood can only be exercised upon the principles of Righteousness. After explaining the Priesthood, the Power of God, that Christ held and used to heal the sick, to raise the dead, and that was given to his apostles to do the same, is the same Priesthood that was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The blessing that was given was super super powerful, and the spirit was there in abundance. Immediately after we left the La Pier's home, we went to our Recent Convert, Izzy Olivas and his family. There we taught him about the Aaronic Priesthood, after having this amazing experience exercising the Melchizedek Priesthood. We read with him D&C 13, and talked about a lot of the things that we taught just an hour before. It was then our privilege yesterday, to confer upon Izzy Olivas the Aaronic Priesthood and Ordain him to the office of a Priest. That was amazing, and he is just a changed man. Most of the people that receive an ordination or go to the temple are changed after they receive or go. They take upon themselves covenants and those covenants bring into their lives the Powers of God.
19 And this greater priesthood administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God.
20 Therefore, in the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest.
21 And without the ordinances thereof, and the authorityof the priesthood, the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh;
22 For without this no man can see the face of God, even the Father, and live.
Talking to Everyone: During the two exchanges, and off of exchanges too, We did very well on talking to everyone. We ran into some funny experiences while we did this, and while contacting too. We met a 'sleeping Mormon', we talked to some people who didn't want to buy anything, others who were uninterested, others who were but weren't in my area, all of it. It was amazing how effective the day was though. It was in the afternoon for about 3 days in a row, and even though the majority of the people that we talked to were not interested, there was still spiritual power there. Each and every time I got the opportunity to bear my testimony of Christ and his restored church, and that strengthened me for the day, for the hour, in the moment. Bearing testimony gives us power.
Daniel and Dominique: Daniel and Dominique are one of the couples that we have been working with for many months. One of the miracles that happened since last Saturday was the appointment that we had with them. She has now quit smoking for over 8 days, and she has seen the blessings in her life. Daniel has also quit drinking, smoking, drinking energy drinks, and eating healthier over the past 6 months. The blessings that they are seeing and that I saw increased my testimony in the Word of Wisdom, and how the blessings of keeping that commandment are given to everyone that keeps the word of God.
18 And all saints who remember to keep and do thesesayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shallreceive health in their navel and marrow to their bones;
19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures ofknowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and notfaint.
21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that thedestroying angel shall pass by them, as the children ofIsrael, and not slay them. Amen.
Exchanges with Elder Woods: On Friday, I had the chance to go on exchanges with Elder Woods, another missionary in our District. I've served around him for a few months, and now finally had the opportunity to go on exchanges with him. He is just an amazing person. As we talked to people you could see the genuine love that he had for the people. One of the miracles that we saw on that day was an appointment with Nelson. It has been about 4 weeks since we were able to meet with him because of his work, and he is finally getting Sunday's off in a few weeks. Other than that, even though we haven't been able to follow up with him for those 4 weeks, when we asked about his Book of Mormon reading, he told us that he was in 2 Nephi 10!!! He got through all of 1 Nephi, and made this hilarious comment that just made my day. paraphrasing, translating it...: I love Nephi, but i just feel like I'll never get to Jacob, it's just so far away. It was wonderful and it was a lot of fun.
No Pictures: Sorry, no pictures this week.
Hope that everyone had a wonderful week, and that y'all have a good one coming up. It has been amazing to serve here as a full-time missionary, and it is hard but rewarding. Thank you for all of your prayers, letters, emails, and support.
Love,
Elder Baker
