This past week was a lot of ups and downs and a big learning experience for me. The time is flying by and there are about three weeks until transfers, and I might move out of this area for good, so we'll be working hard on getting everything we need to do, done. It was a wonderful week.
George: This past Tuesday we had a lesson with George, our investigator, at the home of our bishop in tone of our English wards. It was an amazing experience and the spirit was there strongly. This bishop was one of the eternal investigators before he joined the Church, and it was a real struggle and change in his life to learn and accept the Gospel.
As he spoke and testified to George about the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the spirit was there and filled the whole room. When we asked if he was feeling anything, he mentioned something that he had felt a couple of minutes earlier as we were testifying. It was kinda like static electricity and it filled his entire body with an amazing feeling of joy. He is working on once again quiting smoking and learning for himself if these things are true, and he knows what the spirit feels like. He just has to keep some of these addictions by the power of our Savior Jesus Christ. I know that our hearts and our natures can be changed, and just like it is possible for me, it is possible for George as well. He was supposed to come to church, but he cancelled at the last minute. He'll get there, but it is a slow progression.
Olivas: this past week we had dinner with the olivas at their main fellowshipper families home. After the dinner, we were going to start the lesson that we had prepared, which was going to be reviewing the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, but the spirit was telling us something completely different. There had been a tragic accident the day before and one of the members of the family had almost gotten into an accident that day, and we were prompted to finish teaching the plan of salvation. we had previously taught the first half o the plan of salvation, but the family at the time hadn't known anything about the spirit world, the kingdoms of glory, and pretty much where we go after we die. I had my testimony of the Plan of Salvation confirmed by the spirit during the lesson and it gave much needed peace and comfort to their troubled hearts. You will see those who understand and know the plan of salvation and have the peace that the knowledge brings into their lives, even when I loved one passes away. It is amazing to have this plan.
Zone Conference: Wednesday was our zone conference for this transfer, and one of the things that was best about it was the teaching from our mission president and then another member of the mission presidency, President Nelson and President Hall. President Nelson taught about what it means to be a successful missionary, and that as we are becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ, being obedient to the commandments and to the mission rules, and as we are working hard and having fun, we are being successful, no matter what the response from others is. There is agency that every man and women has in this world, and even if we are the best teachers and the spirit is strong and carries our words to everyone,t here will be many people that will still reject the truth. Then President Hall taught about the first principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. He taught using the example found in Matthew 9 of the two blind mind that had faith sufficient enough to be healed and also the example of the Faith in Christ that was possessed by Job in the old testament. It was a powerful testimony of Christ, and helped me learn more about Faith and that it is a principle of Action.
Lucas: On Saturday night we were way out in the boonies of our area, Osgood, when we had a lesson with Lucas. We asked him if he understand what the Book of Mormon was and why it is important to us, and he had forgotten. He works over 12 hours a day, and has a hard time remembering the things that we have talked about beforehand. We reviewed over the book of mornon and studied through the introduction with him. During the end of the lesson, the most amazing thing happened, he came to his own conclusion and shared what real intent meant. That he had to do all that he could to learn by himself, and then would God come in and take us the rest. He had to do all he could, and then the arm of God would be revealed. He also said that if he learned this things were true he would change his life. He has been so prepared and is so ready to accept the gospel, and wants to be a better Man, Father, Husband, and Son of God.
Sunday: Just like all Sundays for missionaries, this one was very very busy. It started with a morning meeting at 6:30 in the morning with all of the ward mission leaders int he stake, with the stake presidency, and with our mission president. It was wonderful and I learned more about the focus that we should be taking in this stake. From there we went to a ward council in one few the stakes that we cover for Spanish work and promoted the Spanish work. They are on board and working with us, which is exciting to find an elect ward council and an elect ward to do missionary work. From there we met with a ward mission leader to talk about Spanish work, came back for a little bit of personal study, and then went and spoke int eh ward that we had the ward council for earlier that day. From there we stopped by to meet a young mens president, but he was sick, and then went to one of our English wards for church. We were supposed to have two investigators attending, but neither of them came because of other circumstances and because of bailing out. From there we had two meeting with people and going out to contact some Hispanic people, dinner, meeting with some youth and helping them share the gospel with all of their friends that they care about, then had a lesson with a family helping them share the gospel over social media. Busy day.
Lack of Pictures:
Studies: One of the only things is about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. I invite everyone here to study Hebrews 11 and Ether 12 to more fully understand the principle of Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you for all of your support, and sorry that I ran out of time for writing this weekly email. Love y'all,
Elder Baker
